Professor Dr Azlan Amran is the Dean of Graduate School of Business, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). Prior to joining USM, he worked as an accountant for several years. He has published a significant number of articles in the area of CSR in both local and international journals. He has been involved in several training and consultancy projects in Accounting-related issues and Corporate Social Reporting.
He is also an associate member of Institut Penyelidikan Pendidikan Tinggi Negara as well as the editorial board for several international journals. At the national level, he is a Technical Committee member for ISO 26000.
He obtained his MBA and PhD degree from University Malaya. He is an expert in Strategic Corporation Social Responsibility. He is a registered Sustainability Reporting specialist with the Global Reporting Initiatives (GRI). Prior joining Universiti Sains Malaysia, he was an Accountant for several Construction firms. His working experience in the industry is applied in his teaching. Currently, he is teaching Financial Accounting and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) with an emphasis on the strategic integration. In both courses, case study had been used as a method of delivery where both industry problem and theory are blended into case issue provoking students mind and problem solving.
In term of curriculum development, he had successfully launched a new MBA specialisation in Sustainable Development and Master in Development Practices. These two programmes are the first of its kind in this region and particularly in Malaysia. The introduction of this program was part of the strategic move aspired on the University’s vision that is ‘Transforming Higher Education for Sustainable Tomorrow’.
